« RoRo » refers to a method of shipping cargo on specialised vessel, as the one above, the GLOVIS CENTURY. In a RoRo shipment, the cargo is loaded and unloaded by being Rolled onto/Rolled off of the vessel, without crane assistance, depending on the shipment mode you choose.
RoRo shipments are commonly used for transporting automobiles, trucks, buses, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and other types of rolling or wheeled cargo. RoRo vessels are designed with multiple decks to accommodate different types of cargo, as well as ramp systems facilitating efficient loading and unloading.
The Self-propelled way of shipment concerns vehicles which are self-propelled, meaning they are rolled on/rolled off the vessel without cranes assistance. A cargo handler directly drives the vehicle to the dedicated deck of the roro vessel, where it will be stabilised and secured, significantly reducing the workforce, tools, as well as handling time needed to load cargos.
Self-Propelled shipping is available to your cargo, if this one follows the following requirements:
Cars, trucks, buses, heavy machinery, vehicles on tracks… can be self-propelled cargo if the requirements above are followed.
It is common for our customers to ship only trailers without truck heads. Roro vessel’s teams have truck heads dedicated to trailers handling from the terminal to the deck.
The trailer is then stabilised and secured on the vessel.
When it cannot be self-propelled, we often turn to a towed solution for non-functioning vehicles on wheels. As for trailers, we have dedicated teams specialised in towing vehicles on Roro vessels.
A wide variety of loads can be transported using this method, from cars and trucks to heavy machinery, construction equipment, and even large ships and yachts, any rolling cargo on wheels.
The MAFI is a specific rolltrailer made to withstand heavy units. It has particular features designed to secure the cargo onto the MAFI, as well as lashing the MAFI on the deck of the RoRo vessel.
One of the main assets of shipping on MAFI, is the length of the MAFI: from 6.1M to 24.6M. Thus, it offers a cavalcade of possibilities to ship cargos such as boats, yachts, trailers, heavy machinery, or any atypical cargo.
According to your cargo, several types of MAFI are available:
Lenght (M) | Width (M) | Height (M) | Capacity | |
MAFI 20′ | 6.1 | 2.5 | 0.6 | Up to 40 MT |
MAFI 30′ | 9.1 | 2.5 | 0.6 | Up to 120 MT |
MAFI 40′ | 12.19 | 2.44 | 0.65 | Up to 120 MT |
MAFI 60′ | 18.5 | 2.5 | 0.85 | Up to 120 MT |
MAFI 80′ | 24.6 | 2.7 | 1.06 | Up to 80 MT |
